When players are level on goals, the award is decided first by assists, then by fewer minutes played. That order explains the current standings:

Mbappé over Messi (both 6): Mbappé has two assists to Messi’s none, so he leads the award despite the level goal count.
Haaland over Kane (both 5): neither has an assist, so fewer minutes decides — Haaland has played 309 minutes to Kane’s 394.
Dembélé over Oyarzabal (both 4): Dembélé’s two assists edge Oyarzabal’s one.

Assists and minutes are official tie-break criteria, not a betting market. A single goal can leapfrog a player several places, so the order above is a snapshot that can change with any knockout tie.
